So I've been living in California for about five weeks now and I've realized some things:
1) It is a bad idea to assume that Southern California is warm all year round. So much for just bringing only one sweater when it has been like 12 degrees celsius some nights. Gah! 2) The scenery is worth the high price real estate: beach, hills, hot boys with sweet tattoos. 3) Even silk-stocking lawyers say, "dude" in court. 4) In-n-Out Burger really is what everyone says it is: AWESOME! 5) Jack in the Box is a short second. 6) I really heart authentic Mexican food. Note to Canadians: Taco Bell is not authentic Mexican cuisine. Oh and second note: Taco Bell does not serve Fries Supreme. I asked for it at the counter and the attendant looked at me weird. 7) Even 40-year-old men wear Billabong, Hurley, Volcom and O'Neill. 8) "Gnarly" is not a word that died in the nineties, it is still used here. 9) Practically one-in-three kids skateboard. 10) I really love California.
DESPITE THE CHANGE, XANGA AND PROCRASTINATION STILL REMAIN... So it's 10:30 a.m. (daylight savings time just kicked in) on a Sunday and I'm in the library studying tax. What happened to my life? I remember just a couple of years back around this day and time I would still be in bed and hungover, or I would be at my old retail job folding over-priced tee shirts. Whichever scenario, I would probably still be hungover.
Nostalgia aside, I have to say, I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm moving to California in April to start an externship with the Ventura County Public Defender's Office, then off to graduate in September, take the California Bar in February 2010 and finally getting married in September 2010. There is so much to look forward to, so much to plan for, so little time. I'm happy that my life has direction.

TOOLS
And the world continues to happen whether we like it or not. I want to change it, manipulate it, own it, but I just can’t seem to grasp how to do it. I have the tools to work with, but every time I think I can get it fixed there always a new tool for a new situation. I have become a tool collector—a useless fucking tool collector. A jack of all trades, master of nothing.
Why are people different? Why are people insecure? Why do people try to bring everything they have—emotional, physical, financial—to ruin you.
As long as there are people there is drama that is the ultimate truth.
